Write for us
Open Rugby Journal welcomes pitches that help readers notice something specific about rugby: how a phase develops, why a role matters, where a term comes from or what a club custom reveals. Send proposals through the Contact page.
What makes a good pitch
A useful pitch names its central question, explains why a general rugby reader might care and sketches how the piece will answer it. We favour focused subjects with room for clear examples, rather than broad surveys or a string of match observations.
Topics and approach
Ideas may cover laws, phases, player roles, equipment, rugby language, club culture or matchday habits. We look for accurate, readable work that separates established information from interpretation and explains unfamiliar terms without talking down to the reader. Avoid claims that require access to private information or unsupported personal anecdotes.
Sending a proposal
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a proposed title, a short summary, the intended reader and any relevant writing samples or experience you want us to consider. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; do not send confidential material.
The game is easier to follow when you know what to watch.
Open Rugby Journal takes a close, unhurried look at rugby: its moving parts, its language and the life that gathers around the match.
